Endgame: Syria Game Review
Application software download free Windows: Developed in only two weeks, Endgame: Syria is the first news game to address real world conflict and use game mechanics to teach players about the situation. Rejected by Apple's App Store and now available on PC, it is a unique example of how games can convey complicated, sometimes tragic issues to a wider audience.
The game features three overlapping layers: the multi-layered complexity of the Syrian conflict; Russia's role in regional/Middle East dynamics; and Moscow's broader conception of an evolving global order. The game's core premise is that Russia's dominant posture in Syria serves as a platform for engagement across the Middle East and beyond, while also promoting an increasingly competitive, "post-West" world in which Russia gains status at the expense of diminished U.S. power.
Unlike the popular video game "Call of Duty," where the objective is to kill all enemies and conquer territory, Endgame: Syria focuses primarily on diplomacy and gaining support for your faction's cause. While it can still be quite fun to watch your faction's support rise and fall as you wrest concessions from the regime, this is a game about understanding complex political situations rather than simply engaging in combat. Despite its minimalist graphics and sound, it offers a fascinating insight into a real-world conflict that often goes unnoticed in the media.
